Exchange Shipment Information (Business Processes)
What processes are supported with EDI?
- Demand process: Scheduling Agreements and/or Purchase Orders are transmitted form Bosch to the suppliers.
- Response process (if agreed): An Order response must be sent form the supplier to Bosch location.
- Delivery process: Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN or Dispatch advice) must be transmitted from the supplier to the Bosch plant immediately when dispatching the goods.
Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN)
What is an ASN?
An Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) is an electronic notification sent by the supplier to Bosch when a shipment is dispatched.
It provides Bosch with the shipment information required to prepare for delivery and process the goods efficiently upon arrival.
Why is the ASN important?
The ASN helps Bosch to:
- Prepare for incoming deliveries.
- Identify shipments before arrival.
- Support Automated Goods Receipt (AGR).
- Improve traceability.
- Reduce manual processing and receiving delays.
Providing complete and accurate ASN data is essential to ensure smooth logistics processes and avoid delays during goods receipt.
When should I send the ASN?
The ASN should be transmitted when the shipment is dispatched, before the goods arrive at the Bosch location.
Timely transmission is mandatory to ensure that shipment information is available for transportation planning and goods receipt processing.
What information must be included?
Depending on your process variant, the ASN may include:
- Shipment information
- Material information
- Packaging information
- Handling Unit (HU) structure
- Global Transport Label (GTL) Unique IDs
- Transportation information
The information contained in the ASN must be complete, accurate, and consistent with:
- The physical shipment
- The delivery documents
- The labels attached to the handling units
Inconsistent or missing information may lead to delays, manual processing, or rejection of the shipment.
